Jobs for Jewelry Makers?

Hi DamnArtists,

I need some advice on local jewelry-related work.

My sister is about to finish about 5 years of education focusing on jewelry design and metalwork. She went to school in the UK, but their visa requirements are kicking her back to the US in August. She'll be living with the fam in Portland and finding her footing here.

What should her job search look like here in Portland? Obviously she's open to selling her stuff on Etsy while working at a grocery store, but it would really be better if she could get any kind of employment related to her field. Do local artists hire assistants? Are there studios that hire people? What are the best places to find them -- Art in the Pearl, Saturday Market, walking into galleries, other resources I wouldn't know about?

I am not an artistic type and know nothing of this, but I'd like to offer her what orienting info I can.

I guess I should mention that she's also searching online for jewelry work nationwide, but we don't know when or if she'll find a job that way.

Thank you!
Eavan

Openings at combination daycare/preschool

Hey DPers -

Hopefully you're enjoying the sun and the (slightly) cooler temps today.

If you or anyone you know is looking for a good childcare/preschool on the west side - feel free to send PM me.

The in-home school we take our kids to has a couple of openings for Fall they are looking to fill. The rates are reasonable, and the quality of preschool education is excellent. The younger kids and older kids are split between two different houses.

It's located behind St. Vincent's hospital in the Cedar Mill area. Let me know if you are interested. I know it was a nightmare for us to find someplace that would take an under 2-year old and a 3 year old at the same time.
