Comcast 4G?

Hey all - I am now at the end of my one year contract with Comcast for 4G service and I'm cancelling. The service was excellent, but I just didn't find much of a need for it as I usually have Wi-fi access around. Since comcast doesnt' have any sort of "incidental" use plan it just doesn't make sense for me to keep with them.

So here's the Question - is my Comcast 4G system useful outside of Comcast? Can I sign up with another service that might have plans that meet my needs and use this modem? Are there any companies that offer really reasonable 4g service?

iPhone hacks

My boyfriend has an iPhone and wants to switch over to Verizon. I've heard rumor that you can get an iPhone hacked to work on Verizon, but I'm a little suspicious since I've also heard that you can't since Verizon runs on CDMA.

I'm mostly wondering if anyone here has ever successfully hacked their iPhone for Verizon, and if so, how?

Thanks for any help you guys can give =)

Proctoring my situation

Anyone know of free/cheap proctoring services in town?  I have online courses from Utah State U that have pretty strict rules and it's hard to fulfill them without paying out the nose.  To wit:

"[Proctors must be either] college testing center personnel, superintendent, principal, county agent, military education director, or librarian. Students in foreign countries may name an official who holds an equivalent position. Relatives and co-workers are not eligible to proctor exams. Exams must be taken at an educational institution and not at the proctor’s residence."

Anyone know of a place that fits the bill?

How's it goin, DP!

I'm looking for some public-accessible late-season(still open in October) swimming pools, that don't charge people to swim. Pools with showers to rinse out the chlorine preferred. Do these still exist in Portland? Where are they, and what are their hours?

Another computer question

So, I've changed my mind about what I want in a computer as I've recently changed over to Linux (Ubuntu) and absolutely love it!

I will be wanting to buy a new computer soon, so my question is, where would you suggest I buy one if I don't want to put Windows on it? Isn't some of the cost when you go to, say, an office store, for getting a new version of Windows? BUT I also want a brand new computer (laptop, actually) without having to pay for an operating system.

I know Free Geek has stuff (used) for sale. Any other suggestions? Any websites that specialize in this sort of thing?

Suggestions, you have them?

I am looking to fill some prescriptions online. I've never done that before, but it looks like it is a lot cheaper than any pharmacy in town I could walk into. Yes, I love supporting local businesses as much as you, but this is really not an option because shopping around, even the cheapest in-town pharmacy is four times as expensive as the average online price.

So ANYWAY, has/does anyone buy prescriptions online and can anyone recommend a pharmacy? There's like, thousands and I don't know which to pick.

Also, I am looking at reducing my monthly cell phone costs. I was looking at Virgin Mobile for a bit because they offer me service outside of Portland, unlike Cricket. However, their service is still pretty limited and there's no such thing as roaming and I'd have to buy a new handset outright. Ew. I currently have Verizon and I enjoy their coverage, but they're pretty expensive even with a discount. My contract has ended and I am currently on a month-to-month thing with them, so I could leave at any time. I'm really not too interested in getting into another contract. I thought about downgrading my handset and reducing the features on my plan to lower cost, but even if I do that, it's not going to be as cheap as I want. Basically, I don't want to spend more than $50/mo on this crap. Anyway, I don't have a specific question about plans, I'm just looking for ideas.

Actually, that's not true. Does anyone have a Verizon-compatible handset with a full qwerty keyboard for sale? I'm not looking for anything too fancy software-wise because I won't be using mobile web or navigation anymore(especially because the new navigator is total shite), but I would like a 3.2Mp camera if I can find one, even though I'm sure I'd have to settle for 2Mp. A camera is a must though 'cause I take food pix.

Okay, thanks for your time.
