Another "where can I find?" post.

I've tried Googling, but wanted to seek your opinion DP'ers.

1) I'm looking for a good place to go for Korean BBQ. I know in Seattle there are a few places to go for all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ, but I'd love to know if such a place exists here. (Or perhaps an affordable place to have some)

2) I'm getting married soon & am looking for a dress. Any affordable (i.e. cheap) places to go for a dress? I'm looking for something simple. I tried David's Bridal, but don't really know where else to look.

Any suggestions would be great. Thank you kindly! :)

Feel the love.

This is inspired by another friend's post where she wanted to see a person's favorite picture of them and their boyfriend / girlfriend / wife / husband / partner / SO / whatevertermyouusetoseemhipandpoliticallycorrect.

Show me some love!

Here, I'll start.

March meetup

It was suggested we do something fun this month for various reasons, one being that the last minor who attends the meetups regularly is finally 21 (hooray!), so I was posting to see if anyone still wanted to do that! We had talked about karaoke and some quality time in bars... so, that said, still interested or is that too much for a Tuesday night and maybe just want to plan that as a supplementary meet up and stick to routine and head for McMenamin's Tavern and Pool?

Damn 80's....

So...I'm thinking of having an 80's-themed prom for my significant b'day this summer and wondered if some savvy folks had any recommendations for thrift and/or consignment stores that tend to have a LOT of clothing from that era specifically.

I know the Red Light Exchange on SE Hawthorne has a section but other than that I'm clueless. I'd like to also be able to give some suggestions to my prospective guests for ideas of where to forage/shop in preparation for their "prom".

Bonus points for larger sizes (both men and women) as my mates are all shapes and sizes.

Thanksssssssssss in advance!

Courthouse Weddings

Does any courthouse in Portland also perform the ceremony along with issuing the license? The county websites are not very clear and since me/the fiancee just want to take of business and with as little hoopla involved as possible, I was hoping that someone in the community had some personal experience.

Thanks in advance :)

Did anyone watch The Office tonight and see the word of the day? I took a food break at the wrong time and missed it, I'm so mad!

And thanks to everyone that commented on my 'im a cripple and bored' post. I haven't even gone to all the sites yet! So thanks!

Do you frequent the Red & Black Cafe?

I am taking a documentary filmmaking class with the non-profit NW Documentary (nwdocumentary.org). I am making a 5-10 min documentary about the Red & Black Cafe and would like to interview someone involved in the community there.

I will be shooting this Friday-Monday. The equipment is rented, so that schedule is key. If you are comfortable in front of the camera, it would mean a lot to me and to Red & Black if we sat down together for 30-45 minutes. This may change on the fly, but here's some questions to give you an idea of what I may ask:

What draws you to the community at Red & Black?
How would you describe the people who work at and frequent Red & Black?
What kind of impact do you think Red & Black has on Portland?
What is the importance of the IWW or the larger movement to run businesses collectively?
If you had to pick one social issue to fight for, what would it be?
In terms of social progress, how do you think Portland will change in the coming decades? How will you take part in these changes?

You can comment or message me here or email me (caelligh at gmail dot com). Thanks, everyone!

Photo Scanners

I know there are a lot of amazing photographers here in DP and I was wondering if anyone could recommend an great scanner for film & slides. I'm looking for something that scans 35mm & 120, slides, as well as regular photographs. I recently updated to snow leopard & CS4 which isn't compatible with my old scanner. I'm feeling a bit "out-of-touch-with-technology" and would appreciate your feedback!
