Oh, poop (E Coli-ocalypse 2009)

Does anyone know if any businesses in NW or downtown Portland will be closed today because of the situation with the water? Since this city becomes absolutely paralyzed when a single snowflake falls, I'm figuring poop in the water supply will have a similar effect, especially since NW 21st was freakin' DEAD last night due to the situation.

ETA: I know for a fact that the Burnside Fred Meyer is open, including the Starbucks, if anyone needs a caffeine fix.

Every crisis needs a song...

To the tune of "Fire on the Mountain" by Marshall Tucker

Moved my family from my California home
Stashed all my cash and to Oregon I did roam
Three long hours on a Southwest Air flight
Got to Portland and I'm feelin' allright
But now there's poop in the water, feces in my tap
Thought Portland was green but it's tasting like crap

Sam Adams' Twitter said hold on there son
Gotta boil your water before you are done
I know you Westsiders are having a fit
I double dare you to recall this shit!
Now there's poop in the water, feces in my tap
Thought Portland was green but it's tasting like crap
Tasting like craaaaaaaaaaap.

Thank you. Please tip your servers. Try the veal.

Tattoo removal?

I am very seriously considering getting one of my tattoos lasered off. I am trying to find a realiable place to do this--when I google it, I find a lot of places that don't seem too legit. So any recommendations? Any experiences? How much did it cost (I know it can be spendy but I really hate this tattoo).

Point of Order

I'd like to enter into the Damned Portlander record that this period of time be known as Poopocalypse rather than E Coli-ocalypse, as Poopocalypse is a more challenging, yet more fun, thing to say.

Yea, Nay, or enter your own suggestions here.

Portland Laundromats?

A few weeks back the creepy laundromat around the corner from my (soon to be vacated) NW apartment suddenly shut down with a vague "we have decided it's in our interests to do something else with the space" posted on signs inside in the windows.

Today I humped over the river the Washworld on Belmont and there was a "sorry, laundry closed" sign taped inside the window. I wasn't clear if this was a "closed today" or "closed forever" kind of thing.

1. Are there other laundromats that are "close-in"

2. Did some law pass/grandfather clause expire that would have led to a/multiple laundromat(s) shutting down?

Like weird/semi-obscure British TV? Blackadder, Jeeves & Wooster, Little Britain, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, etc?

Big fan of Hugh Laurie?

Want to come hang out downtown with like-minded interesting folks in a environment conducive to drinking lots and laughing at deadpan puns?

Then get ready for this! I'm going to be holding another night of Jeremy's Clevely Titled British TeeVee Night at the Low Brow on Tuesday, Dec 1st. We're starting at 6pm and going until 10 or whenever everybody leaves. Happy Hour goes until 7pm, if not later.

We'll be showing a mix of British stuff: Spaced, Jeeves & Wooster, Blackadder, Doctor Who, and a few other interesting bits.

A brief sample:

Also, we'll have another fun free raffle prize for those in attendance!

The Low Brow is on NW Hoyt, between 10th & 11th, just up 10th Avenue from Powell's books. Right by the Streetcar and the #77 and #17 bus lines.

Here's the Facebook event link.

Making my Christmas List

I see that the new iPod Nano shoots video and receives radio. Is there a comparable/better mp3 player that can do something similar/better? I'm just trying to consolidate so I don't have to ask for a separate camera/mp3 player/portable radio for Christmas/my Birthday.
