snape

Not free, but is anyone here looking for a laptop and/or a digital camera?

I remember seeing these kinds of posts in the past. But if it's not allowed I'll totally remove it.

The crappy economy has hit home and I'm now in serious need of some green. To mark the occasion I am selling one of my laptops (either the new or the old) as well as my one year old loooovely digital camera.

Laptop #1 - $740 Toshiba Satellite E105. Bought in March. Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo P8400. 4gb RAM. 320gb HD. 14in screen. Pretty much brand new! With a 2-year warranty and up to 5 1/2-hour battery life. Super thin and sexy, too!!! Check it out: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/sys/1196287642.html

Laptop #2 - $300 Toshiba Satellite A105. Three years old. Intel Centrino Core Solo 1.86GHz. 1gb RAM. 60gb HD. 15.4in. Works like new but has cosmetic imperfections. Battery can still hold the charge for up to 2 hours if you don't play audio! Pictures here: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/sys/1196289623.html

Digital Camera - $275. One year old. Sony Cyber-shot DSC T300 + 4GB Memory Stick Pro. 10.1 megapixel. Touch screen. 5x optical zoom. 3.5" LCD display. Black, thin, lovely. Again, it's in like-new condition since I haven't used it much at all.

I'll restore the laptop to factory condition and if you want, install Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop for free! And some free music? I have mostly indie rock, shoegaze, electronica, but some top 40, too. Also, if you say you're from DP I'll take off an additional $25. I really need to get rid of these but please be fair with your offers! Thanks! :)

ok. i've been on the phone with the washington board of cosmetology for the last 30 minutes trying to find the right button that will let me talk to a human being.

has anyone gotten an esthetician license transferred from oregon to washington know the process? did you just have to fill out the application and pay the fee's or did you have to practical too?
i've already taken the national exam, but i've been licensed for years, the idea of practicals seems absurd.

got it. its a baffling ordeal involving months of my time and copious amounts of money.
i curse the bastards who keep shooting down a national system.

Edward Gorey Garden Party

I am throwing a fundraiser party for a film I am making this fall on June 14th. Its a Garden Party in the vein of Edward Gorey at the Historic Overlook House in North Portland. Why something this elaborate and themed? The film is a spooky children's film so I wanted the fundraiser events to reflect its tone.

Because LJ'ers love roadtrips and camping.

Non-LJ friends are planning a road trip to the Bay Area f at the end of the month. They want to camp with the kids one night on the way down and one night on the way back.

Does anyone have any suggestions for campsites between here and there - preferably near the Redwoods or in one of the National Parks? Anything they MUST check out along the route?

Of course, most things would be filled up by now, but it's worth a try.

Thanks!

Large employers and out of state health insurance

Are large employers that are based in another state (ones with many employees and several business locations in Oregon) allowed to offer the other state's health insurance in Oregon? Even if that health insurance specifically includes coverage that would be illegal if offered in Oregon?

Also: Thanks to everyone who recommended places to get a bicycle to me. I got an awesome used bike at Citybikes today and the people there were friendly, knowledgeable, and not pushy!

Jewelry

I need to have a very simple ring made with some stones I have. Any suggestions as to someplace inexpensive that will still do a good job? I have a huge list of places to check thanks to google, but I'd love a personal recommendation.

Bunch of random questions

Well the subject line says it all.  I have a bunch of random questions, totally not related to one another.  However, if you can make them related, you win.....a sparkling magic pony.  Use of alliteration and really bad metaphors are highly encouraged.

1) I finally have health insurance (hooorah!) through Providence.  It is high time I get myself checked out.  It's been a sadly long time since having done so and seriously I've forgotten where to begin.  Do I go to a general practitioner first?  OBGYN first?  Where do I start?  And does anyone have any personal recommendations for female doctors of either kind that are covered under Providence.  I'll also be looking for a dermatologist (I think those are covered under my plan...) so recs for that would be much appreciated as well

2) I'm in charge of arranging catering for my company's quarterly meeting and we've decided on Thai.  We're looking to have food for 20 people or so.  Any personal recommendations for your favorite Thai place?  I've gone through citysearch and yelp but I'm looking for more trusted reviews.  If you've ever had the place cater something or make food for that many people, all the better.  I'm thinking of having some pad thai, a curry, and maybe some spring rolls and/or another appetizer or desert.

3) Favorite place in the city to get a facial that's in a very spa-like atmosphere? (i.e. not interested in going to a school, etc. as I want a really super duper relaxing time)  Details please - why'd you like it, what'd they do to you, etc.  I know I asked this a few months back, but it never wound up happening and LJseek is le sucky apparently.

And a few fun facts for the day:

- There are more plastic flamingos in the US than real ones
- President Lincoln's dog was assassinated as well (though at a different time)
- Snickers is the number one candy bar bought from vending machines
- I am excited about the prospect of actual thunderstorms
