are you on the portland center for performing arts mailing list?

rumor has it that there is some uber-special presale for people on the mailing list in the subject of this posting, of tickets to the sigur ros show coming up in october. the rumored presale is friday.

is anyone on their list and care to confirm? i'd bake you something tasty, love you forever, and bring you cash in advance if you'd buy me some tickets at the presale, however that works (maybe via ticketbastard?) since i got screwed by the bands own pre-sale website being down last week at 6am when i dutifully got up and tried to buy tickets.

thanks for your help, folks. sigur ros is one of my two favorite bands (which one is on top depends on mood) and i'm really looking forward to not experiencing the show from miles from stage.

Hair and Makeup?!?

..in a few weeks I'm going to be doing a shoot with a local photographer..

does anyone here do vintage hair and makeup...or know people that do? I can afford most regular rates..but have always done trades in the past..since Im kinda new here still...I have *no* connections to depend on..so? anyone?

Possibility for the next meetup.

I don't know if you guys have tried this before, and I am not very organized, so maybe one of you can.

But you can go to ebay and get a gift card for restaurant.com (right now it looks like you can get a 50$ gift card for 10$)

After that, you head over to restaurant.com (it's totally legit, it is very popular on the deals sites like fatwallet.com and slickdeals.net) and get a gift certificate for the East bank Saloon. You can either get $25.00 for 10$ or $50.00 for $20.00.

The only catch is that you have to spend twice as much. SO if we, as a group order $50.00 in food, we could use the 25$ off coupon which essentially just cost $1.00 (I think? check my maths on this ) $50.00 in food (no beer unfortunately) for $26.00 or $100.00 in food for $52.00

Just an idea that my bf gets all the credit for because he is smarter than I am.

I want to tell you that I will do this and bring it along next time, but I am a total scatter brain so someone else might want to think about it.

hats?

Where can a person buy a good hat or two in this town? I'm thinking more along the lines of a beanie, rather than a baseball cap, cowboy hat, fedora, or what have you. Preferably something fairly thin (i.e. not wool) and either head-hugging or amusingly floppy. I never thought such a simple item of clothing would be so hard to find, but none of the obvious places to check (Goodwill, Buffalo, Red Light, Target, Ross, Frederick's) seem to have anything, at least this time of year.

Used Bookstores

I'm looking for some used bookstores (besides Powells) that have a good sci-fi/fantasy, aviation, or space section. I prefer that it would be in Gresham to downtown Portland. But, for books...I'll take the bus anywhere.

Thanks!

wow tcg

I need to fulfill my inner nerdiness. Where in Portland can I find World of Warcraft tcg cards? I recently decided to start playing, but I've been having problems finding some in the Portland area. I've been to Gamestop and picked up a couple packs, but I used to work at Gamestop and I know those cards go fast so I'm not holding much hope on those stores. :)

Any ideas?

It's the emergency roomate request post.

OK!

My boyfriend just got kicked out of his apartment by his psychotic roomate. It was not pretty. Not living there was a necessary step, but now he is essentially homeless. I live in such a situation that it is impossible for him to come here. Does anyone need a roomate? Or have advice? He is a bit gloomy and a bit dorky, but wonderfully sane, friendly, and reasonable. No drugs or drama... (although he sure knows how to put up with them) Help?

T-Moblie rates going up

Anyone out there who's been looking for a way to get out of their T-Mobile contract, here's your chance.

SMS (Text Messaging) rates are going up to $0.20 / message. This change is considered a "Materially Adverse" change to the contract, and means that you can cancel your contract without an ETF.

yet another where can I find...

Before I have to go online to buy some - do any of you long-haired boys and girls know where I can find decent hair sticks? The only ones I can find at Freds/Target are the cheap plastic ones that break before I can get them through my mass o'hair. My favorite is a wooden one with a metal tip, decorative and effective; my least favorite is the one that makes me look like I have antennae sticking out the top of my head. Any suggestions for local shops or makers would be appreciated!!

Scout the Hamster!

Hi guys,
I am one of those college kids who thought it'd be a great idea to get a small pet to keep her company during those long nights of studying - so a year ago, I went up to Woodstock and got Scout! She's about a year and half old by now, and the cutest little ball of fur ever. Quite adventurous, too, hence her name.
Unfortunately, though, as I slowly realized over the school year and now during the summer with my full time job, I just don't have the time to take care of her properly. It's not been a problem feeding her or anything, but I just wish I had time to play with her, take her out of her cage, etc. I feel she could have a more fruitful life with someone else. All of this is combined with the fact that I am leaving town for about a week and a half, and the last time I let my buddies take care of her, she escaped (and was returned! but still...).
So, in short, does anyone want a white and tan hamster? She comes with a decked-out cage, extra food, extra bedding, and lotsa love!

Lemme know,
Lindsey

Nutrisystem!

So one of my old roomies left a bunch of NutriSystem food and I don't want it.

It's like Dinners and Lunches. I'll give it away to whoever can come and get it, but I wouldn't mind getting some cash for it either, I'm poor. BAWWW.

Sweet Pea Baking

Everyday on my bike ride to work I pass by Sweet Pea Baking. I've never been there and they don't have a menu online but I am interested in stopping by sometime and picking up a treat. What do you recommend I try? I am by no means vegan if that makes any difference at all.

The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition is pleased to announce the release of its 2008 GENIUS Survey in partnership with Ernst & Young.  GenderPAC works to ensure that classrooms, communities and workplaces are safe for everyone to learn, grow and succeed.

The Gender Equality National Index for Universities & Schools (GENIUS), GenderPAC’s most recent effort to end discrimination and promote awareness, encourages colleges and universities to recognize the benefits of a GenderSAFEtm campus - supportive equitable and protective for all students. Choosing to participate in GENUIS sends a strong public statement that bullying or discriminating based on the race, sex or gender of a student, faculty, or staff member is not tolerated at your institution

Fill out the survey at:  www.gpac.org/GENIUS2008survey, and make sure that we have data for as many schools as possible. Your voice will help us continue to work towards a safe and welcoming environment for every student.

While we greatly appreciate the interest taken in GENIUS by students, staff and faculty at academic institutions outside of the United States, at this time GENIUS is only able to track schools based in the United States.

You can buy a lot of alcohol with $50

I'm going to be moving on July 4th. It's a pain, but it's the only day I could get off work. The real problem - besides trying to drive a moving van from the deep NE to the deep SW on a holiday - is that I need to find someone to help out. I'm pretty scrawny, and the only other people who will be able to assist at this point are my 7 1/2-months-pregnant sister and my also scrawny mom who injured her shoulder recently.

You'd be getting $50 cash money plus lunch. We want to try to get started pretty early (around 9 AM) and have the whole operation finished by 4 PM or earlier so as to avoid the worst of the traffic. Basically, what we'll be needing the most help with are a couple recliners and a bedroom set, so you don't need to be a human forklift or anything, just able-bodied.

Am I Missing Something?

I'm not mathematically inclined, so please tell me if I'm off.

Say Safeway has gas for $4.13 per gallon, and if you use their card, you save $.03 per gallon. I wanted to know how much of a "savings" that was, so I did 4.13/.03 and got 137.66. Doesn't this mean that if you buy 137 gallons of gas, you'll "get one free" via their savings of three cents per gallon? Isn't this kind of a shitty savings?

Adult gymnastics/dance classes

I've used to take dance classes when I was a younger teenager, but then I stopped. Now I'm 20 and I want to take a class that's a little more fun than yoga or pilates. Does anyone know of a good adult gymnastics or dance class? I'm mostly interested in gymnastics, and I know I don't want to take ballet. I tried a hip hop class at Vega but didn't really like it. I used to take hip hop with DJ at Stites and then at her studio on 112th, but I have no way of finding out if the class on 112th is still going on. It would be even better if the class was in North or Northeast. Thanks!

TVP

Where can I get preferably sealed containers of TVP that are cheaper than the 10oz bags of Red Mill at Whole Foods? Those seem pretty expensive. I want to buy a bunch of TVP. I asked about it last time I was out at FuBonn and they looked at me like I had 3 heads and was speaking Martian. From this I gather that TVP is White Hippy Food and not Asian as I was led to believe.

Lost on Last Thursday

Anyone at Last Thursday on Alberta tonight? Anyone stop to watch the firespinners? (I was the one in the green shirt and glasses.) Anyone happen to pick up a single blue fabric poi? It fell out of my purse when I was rooting for my camera. I accidentally took a picture then and when I uploaded the pictures just now, I saw it had fallen on the street unnoticed. If anyone happened to pick it up, let me know. They're not terribly expensive to replace but I'd rather not get a new set right now due to various financial constraints.

Thanks! *crosses fingers*

Thankful Thursdays, Portland-Style!

1. Something Old: Discovering that Pentel still makes Color Pen after all these years (I found them at the PSU Bookstore earlier today). Those Pentels bring back memories of spending childhood years immersing myself with those pens.

2. Something New: Discovering that PSU Bookstore carries Moleskine sketch books.

3. Something Nice: Seeing a total stranger on 14 Hawthorne bus earlier today kindly picking up another passenger's dropped belongings.

4. Something Fun: Establishments which not only provide festive mood, but also help accommodate joyful surprise gatherings. I just cannot say enough good things about Hoda's restaurant.

5. Walking through the Farmers Market in the Pearl earlier this evening and witnessing the scent of strawberries in the air on a warm evening.

6. The contagious effect of smiling at strangers, no matter who they may be.

7. The North America Organic Brewers Festival this weekend.
