We are trying to plan a camping trip. I have only been to a few places in Central Oregon. A friend has mentioned Lost Lake, but just seeing what other options there are. We're looking for a campsite that has:

-a lake, no motor boats allowed
-canoe rentals
-animal friendly
-fire friendly

Also trying to stay in the valley area. Southern Oregon is ok too. Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Free Entertainment Center

We're getting a new tv that is too large for our old entertainment center. It's not the best entertainment center around, but we got it for free many years ago in Atlanta and it survived the trek, so it's relatively sturdy. If anyone would like to come pick it up, send me a message and I'll give you the address. It's sitting outside, as shown in the picture below. If you'd like better pictures, let me know.. I just took this on my phone camera.

ETA: The picture doesn't show it very well, but the middle section is divided into two parts. The right hand segment is large enough for a 19", and Hub says it could probably fit a 23" tv. By the way, if anyone wants our old 19" tv for some reason, that's free too. It doesn't work very well, but maybe you could tinker with it. Pic available upon request. The bottom part of the image is distorted.

coast lodging

We're wanting to go to the ocean for a couple nights in the near future and are looking for recommendations.  Specifically, we'd like a decent, but cheaper place - it doesn't have to be oceanfront, but within 5 blocks or so to the ocean would be good.  It would be nice if it was in a cute town where we could walk around, maybe look at some shops, or go to a cafe/restaurant.  I've googled a bit and there is an overwhelming amount of information, but the hotels that keep coming up are the super fancy hotels that are out of our budget right now.  Newport is probably the furthest south that we could go, but would prefer closer than that.  If you have any ideas - we'd love to hear them!  Thanks in advance.
little blue dog

the dog has cat problems ...

Dear DP:

A neighborhood cat has taken to digging holes in various places around my yard, usually in the beds. I chase it off when I see it, but it's decided that my yard is its territory and keeps returning. I don't think it's a stray; it looks healthy and I think has a collar. I haven't been able to catch it to see who it belongs to.

Does anyone know a good, humane way to dissuade it from further messing around my place?

The City of Portland is sponsoring a project to look at ways to improve livability around Eastside MAX stations. Over the past two months, the City has been working with residents and business owners to identify needs, opportunities and constraints around each station. Overall, the top three issues are: 1)improving public safety and security; 2) providing more sidewalks and crossings for pedestrians; and 3) increasing the quality of new development.

Two community meetings are being held this month to continue getting public feedback and to review a set of station area maps that show needs and opportunities based on the comments heard so far.

The Eastside MAX Station Communities Project is a City of Portland-sponsored effort to explore ways to create active station communities where a wide range of housing, retail, services and job opportunities are immediately available within a pedestrian-friendly, 20-minute walk (one-half mile) of six Eastside MAX light rail stations:

60th Avenue 122nd Avenue
82nd Avenue 148th Avenue
Parkrose/Sumner 162nd Avenue

The objective is to help the station areas better serve transit users, support transit-oriented development and create more attractive communities.

Help out a clumsy fool

I need to find a replacement for this. You can't tell from the photo but it is broken in a couple of places. Has anyone seen anything like this at any shops in Portland? It is about 6 inches tall and is a lamp (more like a nightlight) made from porcelain.

Thanks in advance.

car for sale

I have Craigslist postings already for a 1993 Nissan Altima:

Look here for auto parts, and here for the whole kit and kaboodle.

It needs to have a strut replaced, but if you, or anyone you know is handy with cars, it's still in pretty good shape. It got good gas mileage, too, for a older car -- 25-30 combination city/highway. Otherwise, it's good for spare parts.

For a hilarious story on my miserable luck with cars, mock me here. On the other hand, this may not be the best selling strategy... I am not good with cars, and never have been.
