SNR-SN 1604

nOW 14 LIGHT YEARS WIDE, THE SHOCKWAVE FROM THE SUPERNOVA THAT LIT THE SKIES ABOVE JOHANNES KEPLER IN1604 IS SITLL TEARING THROUGH SPACE AT 6 MILLION KPH. NO-ONE IS SURE WHAT SPARKED THE EXPLOSION-WAS IT THE INEVITAVLE FATE OF A MASSIVE STAR OR THE ALL TOO BRIEF RESURRECTION OF A WHIE DWARF(A TYPE I SUPEROVA)?

Vagina Power vs. Penis Power

Sorry to make a youtube-heavy post, but have any of you guys seen the various Alexyss K. Tylor videos from Atlanta Public Access that have been around the internet and on Best Week Ever and the Soup in the past couple of months.

If you're bored, I hope you enjoy them. I find them pretty hilarious.

**Disclaimer: These videos are certainly not politically correct and I expect some of you to bitch. Snark away!

(no subject)

I have a question about concerts at the Zoo. (which, to the best of my knowledge, is not on the 'drink' list, sorry...)

Let's say I really really wanted to go to tonights show, but tragically, it SOLD OUT. Being that it's the zoo, and presumably a very, large, outdoor space, is there any good opportunities for catching the show just by lurking about on the periphery? Or is that pretty much impossible and just not worth my while?

Canine Labor Process

OK, OK. I got totally distracted by the Alexyss K. Tylor videos. Wild stuff. But I had a question to post. Here it is--

My dog is about to have puppies. So, of course, I'm reading stuff like this. I wish I had a thermometer to see how her temperature is. But in lieu of that, she's acting a little different (I think she wants to nest under my bed! eep. Also, she's not eating crunchies.)

Would you be willing to share your experiences with me in comments? I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

Doctors

Hey, so I have a fairly evil infection that I need to figure out how to deal with. I haven't had any kind of regular doctor for several years other than one at a free clinic that's not open right now, so I'm basically just looking for a general physician I can go to. This person would be:

1) decently inexpensive for someone who has to pay out-of-pocket (no insurance)
2) trans-friendly but not necessarily an expert in that subject
3) preferably in SE

Scared

Okay. As a pedestrian Portlander I am afraid of cyclists more than ever. They almost hit me all the time. They cuss at me as I cross a cross walk and they whiz past me and almost eat shit 'cause their helmet less and ignorant as they ride. Now I go into my back yard to the sound of really loud speakers blasting "WOOP!" "YAH...inaudible loud speaker talk" and really bad fast trance blasting. I glare over my fence to see a bunch of cyclists walking their bikes in a circle with everyone following in that process. Cyclists in Portland=Scientologists!. I'm gonna bump my jams hella loud in my kitchen as I do dishes shirtless now to counter act their terrible music and loud speaker bike ritual.

Visiting Portland

Hey guys, I hope this post isn't too annoying, but my partner & I are visiting Portland for Labor Day weekend and I have a couple burning questions to ask you.

We're staying at the Hotel Vintage Plaza downtown and we'll be relying on public transit / cabs / our feet to get around. We'd really love to go see the Bodyworks exhibit at the OMSI, but the Trimet Trip Planner gives really bizarre directions. Do you think we could WALK to the OMSI from downtown, or is that just not a good idea? Maybe just take a cab there?

Is the OMSI worth the trip? We'll be in Portland from early Friday morning until Monday night... is the OMSI an all day kinda thing?

Also, I'm compiling a little list of cool-looking bars, restaurants, etc., and I'd love if you guys would add your favorites. So far, I'm psyched about going to:

Veganopolis
Hot Lips Pizza
Rogue Public House
Kennedy School
Blossoming Lotus
Powell's (obviously)

We're both in our mid-to-late-20s, queer, and into books, beer and vegetarian/vegan food.

Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks.

car trouble

My car has been sitting in the garage most of this week, but the other day I noticed the oil light on so I put in a quart of oil. I haven't driven since, but I just went down there and there is a huge brown puddle under my car and the light came back on - like it all just slipped through.

I know nothing about cars, does this just mean I have a leak or I need an oil change? Is my car even safe to drive like that? I'm paranoid about even driving it somewhere to get fixed. My car has a history of breaking down or smoking on me.

And also, if it means I must take it in where are some good VW shops in portland? I have a 92 VW Jetta.

Thanks...

Portland's Fat Burlesque Troop

Hey Y'all,

Let us get this fat Portland burlesque troop off of the ground!

Sorry this has taken so long- it has been a crazy and busy summer. But, this week I come back from Mexico and my activist batteries have been recharged- so let..s have at it.

The first meeting will be at my house: EMAIL ME FOR ADDY! at 4:00pm on Sunday, August, 19th.

We will discuss our mission, what we are bringing to the troop, and hopefully toy around with other ideas of organization and solidarity.

Forward this message to friends and other people who you think would be interested in starting or being involved with a Fat Burlesque troop here in Portland.

Hope to see you then,
Anna

PS email me at anna.isarobot@gmail.com with any questions or what not!!
