Most overrated Portland experience.

So, here is a big, easy question:

What do you think the most overrated Portland experience is?

Or, I could almost ask, What is the most overrated Portland "experience"

Sure to stir some debate.

For me, I would have to say that Pioneer Courthouse Square is the most overrated Portland experience.

Puzzle: Who's Shooting Whom?

It's Thursday, which means it's time for another puzzle.

This puzzler is mathematical in nature. Imagine if you will, three gentleman, Mr. Black, Mr. Brown and Mr. White, who so detest each other that they decided to resolve their differences with pistols. It's kind of like a duel -— only a three-way duel. And unlike the gunfights of the old West, where the participants would simultaneously draw their guns and shoot at each other, these three gentlemen have come up with a rather more civilized approach.

This is such a girl question to ask...but DPers you're always so helpful!

Have any of you changed a flat on a newer (specifically 2006) Hyundai Elantra?

I know how to change a tire...but I can't seem to get the darn jack out of the car!!! I've been trying most of the morning. Is there some trick I'm missing? I check the owners manual without ANY luck.

Advice?

ETA THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS!!! You made my morning! I called roadside assistance (I completely forgot that comes with Hyundais!) and they sent somebody out. He got here in LESS THAN 30 MINUTES!!! MAJOR KUDOS to you, damnportlanders and MAJOR KUDOS to Hyundai and their Roadside Assistance!!!!!

my mini comic at Powell's (on Hawthorne)

mini two

Powell's (on Hawthorne) just started selling my 20-page mini-comics. They collect silly little gag cartoons that I've been working on lately. You can also find them at Reading Frenzy and Guapo Comics (a great little comic shop on Foster).

Collapse )

They're a buck each because they're a total pain in the ass to make (the minis, not the comics). They're a short read, I bet you could even read the whole thing at the counter and not buy one. I think I'm the crappiest salesman in the world.

Thankful Thursdays, Portland-Style!

There seems to be an abundance of things to be thankful about this week....so apologies in advance for the super-sized list....

1. The gorgeous cherry blossom trees in bloom--especially in eastside, and at the Waterfront Park!

2. The useful and efficient parking space status lights in the parking garage at the Portland International Airport!

3. Random friendly stranger in inner eastside who smile and say hello as we're passing each other.

4. Having a fun evening of karaoke with awesome damnportlanders.

5. Seeing couple of cute, curious wandering ducks walking on the bike trails along the Willamette River (in the Johns Landing area). They were so big close-up!

6. Kindness of an unknown stranger in downtown Portland, who returned my missing bicycle glove to the parking garage attendant in my office building.

7. An incredible, intimate dining experience at Grolla restaurant in NE Portland--the carefully prepared food was very delectable and exquisite (the baked polenta appetizer was divine!). The restaurant's antique-laden interior was cozy and inviting, and the gregarious owner was very friendly and vivacious. I highly recommend the restaurant for those special occasions.

Question for the ladies...

.

So this has been bugging me for a while, and I feel online is the best place to ask.

When a guy hugs you, and you start to feel, you know, that bulge, what goes on in your mind?

I'll assume probably different things pending on the guy, but still. General question. Genuine curiosity.

Is there a good place to get Jan Pong in Portland? I've been craving that wonderful noodly concoction but have not found a place that serves it since I moved here. And while we're on the topic of noodly goodness, where has the best Pho? Praise FSM, ramen. :)

Is there any way to get neon yellow curry stains out of my fingernails, other than waiting for them to grow out? It looks like I got bored and highlighted myself for shits and giggles.

Stoopid FAST!

Hello, all. I thought I'd take a break from beating up on lokidecat and looking for photobooths long enough to ask you a question about the size of my connection tubes on the internets!

I pay Comcast for 6,000 kb/s service. It's always been faster than that, but lately it is ridiculously, exponentially faster. My last check on speedtest.net says 15,854 kb/s.

So, my questions:

1. Are other Comcast users experiencing this acceleration?

2. What the hell should I do with all this bandwidth besides downloading porn fighting communism?

3. Do you get as excited as I do when you see that your internet speed is faster than all of your friends?

Thanks. I love each and every one of you, despite your multitudinous, heinous flaws.

garage sale type event tomorrow & saturday (N Portland)

Hello DPers...

One of my best friends is having a big garage sale tomorrow (friday) and saturday.

It's in North Portland, around Lombard / Chautauqua and I know there's lots of cool stuff because after I helped her sort and price everything, there was a big box of stuff my husband made me give back because we already have too much stuff. :)

In her own words:

That's right, I'm moving and I am getting rid of LOTS of stuff - yard tools, shop tools, art supplies, kitchen stuff, furniture, books (including all the books I used as a teacher)... the list goes on and on...

The sale is Friday (March 23rd) and Saturday (March 24th) from 10am until 4pm at my old house, 8309 N. Hurst Ave. Come by to browse or just say hi!

I'm also selling a couple of antique armoires, a large farmhouse style dining room table, and a lovely purple couch!

Please forward this to anyone you think would be interested. One person's trash is another person's treasure!!!

ps. the house is also for sale and it's honestly the prettiest one on the street... in case anyone's shopping for a big tall house with a cool front yard and a huge garage.....

Wise DP...

I am in need of your great wisdom...yet again.

We have this blonde colored coffee table and while it is only a hand me down from the parents it is all a poor college couple can do. I being the wise scientist was studying late one night with an evil stack of post-its nearby to mark pages. Somehow after going to bed my naughty class of water sweated onto said post-its and apparently made the color bleed.
We've tried Murphy's Oil Soap and other various cleaners to no success. I have this lovely pink stain on my table that only barely began to disappear. Suggestions? Words of wisdom?

Sincerely,
Newly discovered coaster lover.

I could've sworn I saw something about used instrument shops just a few days ago, but for some reason it can't be found. Sooo...any good used guitar/amp shops around this here area? Looking for a Telecaster in particular.
