Can anyone help me??

Can any of you fellow portlanders help me?

I found and have been chatting with this awesome guy on Skype who works for this company that places people from the australia and united states in the UK and gives them a place to live and jobs and pays for all their visas and what not ...I think he's legit, but I wasn't so sure..so i googled his name and the company and it came up with a website for a company called work force solutions...and his degrees and what not. ....went to essex uni and has a BA and MA in politics and economics. He says they help do work visas for anywhere from 6 months to 3 or 4 years...he says the whole process takes like 7 weeks. It seems legit, but who knows...I know workforce is a real company, i've heard of it before, i mean i typed in his name and whatnot into google and it came up with the company website and his picture was there...and his info so....who knows, im'not sure how else i would be able to check the legitimacy of his claim.

Does anyone else know how I would research this furthur to try and see if this guy is real? I mean I spoke to him for houuurrrs and he seemed legitimate. I saw him on webcam too so I know the guy i'm talking to is the same on in the picture on the company website.

If this is real, I would really like to pursue it, can anyone help me????

His name is Richard Thomas and he claims to work for WorkForce Solutions. If anyone else can figure out if he's legit, let me know.

Hey...I need some blueprints

Hey, I have a friend who's looking to have someone draw up some blueprints for a soon to be coffeehouse, and he's willing to pay 100.00. Experience in drafting blueprints is definitely a requirement. Thanks so much everyone. Let me know if you're interested.

Need a tailor

I have a major work event coming up in a couple of weeks (the Snow Ball at the Crown Ballroom), and I bought a fabulous dress to wear to it at Goodwill.  Unfortunately, the zipper needs to be fixed.  It looks like it's already been "fixed" once by someone who didn't know what they were doing, so now it doesn't lay flat.  It's an easy fix, but my sewing machine is temperamental, and it's a very delicate fabric, even if I did have the time to do it myself.  Thus, I need a tailor.  Someone who won't charge me twice what the dress is worth, who can reset a zipper for me.  I live in SE near-ish 82nd on Division, and work downtown at SW 10th & Taylor.  Close to either or somewhere in between would be perfect.  Just about anyplace downtown would work.  Anyone have a reccommendation?

city animal laws

hey all...
i'm hoping someone can help me get this figured out...

i've been investigating Portland animal laws from time to time, and keep hitting a roadblock - especially in regards to "exotic animals"

All i'm finding is Portland at least 'had' an exotic animal definition and regulations (city charter Title 13.10.015 )

now all i get is " Repealed by Ord. No. 166281 Feb. 24, 1993."

my problem
I can't find that Ordinance ANYWHERE

anyone able to help me out with this?
so far as i can tell, Mult. Co. laws may have become stricter than the city laws in the early 90s, so the city struck them from the books... i can't confirm or deny this...

NutraSystem

Hi All.

Does anyone have any experience, good OR bad, with NutraSystem? I am thinking about starting it. I have set a large weightloss goal for this year, of 100lbs, and I know I can do it. I just don't which FOOD route to go.

Any info would be helpful!

Panera!

Just FYI, a Panera Bread Bakery Cafe opened up a couple weeks ago at Cornell and Butler in Hillsboro, near Sonic. First in Oregon :) Thought that DPers would be interested, given the large amount of transplants from the midwest and east, where Panera is much more common. I would recommend the vegetarian black bean or butternut squash soups, along with the fuji apple chicken salad or asian chicken salad. Mmmm.

Anyone know a house for rent?

So here's the situation. I need a house/duplex/something not an apartment to live in. I want a 2 or 3 bedroom. I want it to be below $900 a month hopefully with a garage.

I keep finding them, applying for them, but no matter what I do, people won't rent to me. Even when I'm willing to throw 1000's of dollars in a deposit down to assure them I'm a good tenant, they refuse.

If anyone knows anything, please read further so you know the whole story and you can decide if they'll still rent to me.

Thanks.. any help or advice or ANYTHING would be appreciated. I'm feeling really down right now and I could use some advice.

Pocky! Pocky!

I have a friend who has a son in Florida who is deprived of things like rain, a good transit system, and cyclists who write bitchy open letters to motorists. But, mostly, he is deprived of good cuisine such as Pocky, and those groovy little rice-paper-wrapped candies. In addition, he'd like to branch out and try all kinds of funky little cheap dessert/food items that will travel well via UPS.

Said friend would like to find a good Asian market either downtown, or on the east side, that is stocked with fun little items to put into a care package. And, yeah, I know there are a million markets out there. I'm looking for THE place.

Ideas?

jobs??

I know this gets asked constantly, but I really need a new job. Does anyone know of anyone hiring? I feel bad complaining in a way, because some people here would be happy to find a job period, but I hate it. I work for a private insurance company in customer service, the pay and benefits are decent, but it is slowly destroying my sanity. This company is completely disorganized and always screws up people's bills, histories, claims, etc. We in customer service get to be the battering rams for all the angry customers. It is making me nuts and driving me to drink every night when I get home, arrgghhh..... I really don't want to work in customer service or answering phones ever again. I do also have experience in the retail industry, the travel industry and the restaurant industry. I have ended up being a supervisor/trainer at most of my jobs. If I don't find a new job in the next couple of months, I'm either going to go postal, become an alcoholic or start taking drugs. I literally feel insane from this place. Help! Thanks in advance!

Help for a prospective Portlander?

Dearest Portlanders,

As a non-official New Year's resolution, I decided it's high time to stop lurking and actually post something here. Let me introduce myself. I'm a 28 year old veterinary technician living in Richmond, VA with my husband and our 3 semi-special needs animals. My husband and I are in love with your fair city even though we've never even been to visit yet. Over the past year, we've researched it to death and have totally fallen for your friendly atmosphere, your quirky nature, your wonderful public transit, your diverse entertainment offerings and your laid back, welcoming attitudes. We are desperate to escape VA for Portland, but securing employment first is a must. After a long and arduous search, I finally have a job opportunity in my field (I specialize in canine physical rehabilitation), but now my husband needs some leads.

He is a Medical Technologist with a Bachelor's degree in Biology (his Associate's degree is in Clinical Lab Sciences, I believe). His first choice was OHSU, but unfortunately, there are no open positions in his field. He's tried Legacy Hospitals as well and never heard anything back.

So I ask you, dear DPers, where should we look next? He's open to non-hospital jobs as well, such as independent labs. Also, in your collective experience, is it more difficult to get hired in Portland as an out-of-state job seeker? Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

DALEKS RULE, DOCTORS DROOL

(no subject)

Portlanders, come to my aid.

After I turned eighteen, Oregon kicked me out of their insurance club. I, however, still have depression/panic disorder. Free clinics that can prescribe me meds? Hopefully somewhere that won't wig if I tell them what I need? Because I know the names of all my meds my doctors had me on and I can pay out of pocket, I just can't pay for insurance.

Coffee?

Another question, of course.

I am meeting a friend for coffee/tea/general morning beverage tomorrow but I'm not sure about where we should go. I ride the max to work and catch it at Gateway - what's near there that you absolutely love? It has to be open early, like 7am, and an indoor seating area is a must. It can either serve a variety of coffee or not.. it doesn't really matter. Just a cuppa joe and a pastry-ish thing would be fine, too.

So, whaddya guys say?

Thanks in advance.

TMZ has obtained a restraining order filed by veteran "Days of Our Lives" actor Drake Hogestyn against a man he says assaulted him in his home on New Year's Eve, and "physically tried to exorcise the devil from me."

Hogestyn, who has played John Black on NBC's "Days" for over 20 years, says he was with his family in the backyard of their Malibu home when Carl Raymond Cheney of Portland, OR came onto his property and ran at his daughter carrying a bible screaming "Where is he? I will cast him out!" Hogestyn says Cheney was "calling me by my stage name... recalling past storylines, especially the demonic possession of several years past. But more important, he thought I was dead, because the show that aired on Friday 12.29.06 left my character John Black shot & presumed dead."

Hogestyn, who was on a ladder painting his house, says Cheney grabbed and pushed his wife backwards on their patio stairs. At that time, Hogestyn "grabbed him by the hair, spun him around, delivered a right cross to the chin that sent him down the stairs." According to the restraining order the struggle continued for 10 minutes until Hogestyn and his 25-year-old son Ben were able to subdue Cheney by duct-taping the intruder's hands and feet until police arrived.

Cheney was transported to the L.A. County Jail where he is still in custody on $150,000 bail. According to the court documents, a map with directions from Portland to Hogestyn's home were found in the front seat of Cheney's car.
