Transit strike

Ouch. No busses or subways in NYC. It'll be like Los Angeles on the eastern seaboard.

Wow. Thank God the local transit union and TriMet get along, isn't it? On the other hand, a transit strike would be a good demonstration on just how much difference transit makes in Portland to the conservatives if it did happen here.

A RIDE TO EUGENE ON XMAS EVE? (xposted to my journal and eugene community)

I found out I have to work on Xmas eve 9am-1pm at the wonderful Hot Topic in Lloyd Center.

My family is in Eugene.
I was wondering if anyone would be doing any traveling south around this time (xmas eve) and could help me get from Point A (Portland) to Point B (Eugene).

Any time after 1pm on Xmas Eve would be PERFECT for me.

I can provide:
-Gas Money ($10?)
-My awesome Cd Collection to listen to on the way.
-Me just taking up space for the ride.

so please. if you can do this.

vending machines in portland.

Ok, kind of a weird one guys. My company needs a vending service and I am having about the worst time in the world trying to get in touch with anyone at any agency. Do any of you work somewhere that has vending machines which are stocked and serviced by people you would recommend? Thanks in advance for any help!

Local Bobbin Lacers???

I've contacted folks from the Portland Lace Society in the past, but either meeting locations are far out (I have no car), or against any sort of schedule I keep.

Is there anyone in DP who does bobbin lace and attends any of these meetings (maybe with a car and willing to drive me in exchange for gas money?) or doesn't and would want to put something together closer-in to the city?

I miss my bobbin lace and I'm sorely lacking in patterns, but I'd like to return to it - and having others to lace-make with is good times.

Once again, Tom Delay has to put his sex out there.

Gawwwwwdamn. Isn't he just a beautiful specimen of man?

Delay lived it up on his PAC donations.

at least 48 visits to golf clubs and resorts with lush fairways; 100 flights aboard company planes; 200 stays at hotels, many world-class; and 500 meals at restaurants, some averaging nearly $200 for a dinner for two.

On R.J. Reynolds' planes, smoking is allowed and there are usually beverages and deli-style food. There's more leg room and the convenience of phones.

The smoking rule suits DeLay, who likes to chomp on cigars while golfing and reported spending at least $1,930 in PAC money on cigar-shop purchases.

The stops for DeLay and his associates include Morton's of Chicago, where the average dinner for two goes for about $170 before tax and tip, and "21" in Manhattan, a longtime glamour spot where American caviar goes for $38 for a taste.

When DeLay wants to head somewhere without the hassle of commercial travel, he often asks a company for its jet and uses donations to pay for it.

Oh, that Delay. What a dream!

Coupon Organizer

My mom really wants a coupon organizer (an accordian style fold out wallet sized thing that has categories for coupons like "cereals" and "electronics"). I know, it's lame, but where can I find one of these?? I don't even know what it is officially called... and I have tried places like Target and found nothing, I can't even think of what department they'd be in.. any ideas?

Here's a picture of kind of what I am looking for:

Thanks DP's!

Has the world gone crazy?

I wanted a Dell Pocket DJ for Christmas. Apparently Dell no longer makes them.

I know you wise DPers may not care about my materialistic wishes, but this just seems very strange to me. I just called Dell and asked them. The man said, "We can offer the DJ Ditty!" I don't want that piece of shit. I want an MP3 player, not a tiny piece of plastic that will hold 200 songs. I asked him why they stopped selling / making the Pocket DJ and Regular DJ and he said, "I don't have that information."

What's up? This is very peculiar to me. Why would a company stop selling an item that was highly profitable without letting anyone know?

O.K. all you Portland desk jockeys!

It's office gastronomy time!

What foodstuffs are in your desk/cubicle/work area right now?

Quaker Instant Oatmeal packets (breakfast)
Japanese bowl ramen from Uwajimaya (the only English text is "Nissin")
1 box Mrs Cubbison's Croutons (emergency calories, also good for soup)
1 bottle Chipotle hot sauce
1 bottle Sriracha hot sauce
1 bottle Gulden's brown mustard (liven up those Fred Meyer subs)
Taco Bell Fire Sauce packets
ketchup packets
Emergen-C packets

Thank you!

I wanted to send out a big "THANK YOU" to those of you who sent out money for presents for the guys from my group home. They're still not expecting any gifts, and they will be overjoyed when they see gifts with their names on them under the tree on Christmas eve.

If anyone is still interested in donating you can send me an email at and I'll give you the info you need.

Honestly, I never expected such generosity. It's made me a little less jaded about the holidays. Thanks again!!!!!
