Where do you buy clothes? I'm especially interested in online ventures that won't break the bank, but local NW, and high quality products are always nice too.

I just need some essentials, as my pants are either too big, too small, or falling apart.

Edit: and not just the pants!

Here's a Slim post...cause I know you all miss them!

What are checkered Vans? For that matter, what are Vans?

I seriously don't know . . .

Anyways, what are you getting your S.O. this holiday? I picked her up an iPod last year. I want to get her something equally as fun and "gadgety." She hasn't given me any ideas. Maybe DP can help!

Now, for the real point of this post -

Sitting in the theater on Saturday night, the girl and I caught a nice little commercial before the feature presentation. I don't remember exactly what it was for, but it went something like this.

"Children are suffering this holiday season. We will never stop looking for a cure. We will never turn a child away. *flash of three or four children who have undergone chemotherapy* You can help this holiday season by buying as much as you can..."

Now, this really really really bugs me. Buying as much as I can? Purchasing that scarf that will help breast cancer. Cutting tops off of boxes for whatever else. Can you see the stupidity of this? DON'T buy it! Don't buy that crap! "But Slim, the money is donated to good causes..." Bullshit! A portion is donated. If Americans send in 5 million tabs, the company will donate one million dollars. You know what would have been better? If Americans sent in the money that they used to purchase that crap. Don't buy this shit...don't get sucked into purchasing a band, or scarf. Donate the money directly. If you really want to help, just help.

That's all.

Dear Fucktard;

Dear Fucktard,

Thanks for hitting my rear driver side window and leaving no note. I really appriceate it considering I leave for a business trip tonight to Seattle and I get to drive up there. At least speedy auto glass can come fix it up, but that $170 was $170 that would have happily gone to other things.

Who? What?

Awhile ago someone posted about wanting postcards for the holidays from home while they are going to school at...Oxford I belive it was? And for the life of me I cannot find the address. Can someone point me in the direction of that post - please?

Thanks ever so much!!

Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne (c) 1945

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
It doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I brought some corn for popping;
The lights are turned way down low,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

When we finally say good night,
How I'll hate going out in the storm;
But if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bye-ing,
But as long as you love me so.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

I know it's early (winter), but I really want to join a softball team this next year and don't know where to start. Ideally, I'd like to play fastpitch and know that it's hard to find adult fastpitch teams. Does anyone know of any fastpitch teams that are looking for players? And if I can't find a fastpitch team, do you know where I should look for slowpitch? Thanks in advance for your help!

Government Island

Has anyone else noticed the strange fog hovering over Government Island? Anyone else hear the rumors of mysterious creatures lurking there? I have always wondered why Government Island was uninhabited. Now it turns out it might not be.

OK DP'ers ...

What's your LEAST favorite Christmas song?

There's gotta be one, the one that plays and just sets you on edge for no reason at all, sends you screaming from the store, gets you foamy, whatev. I'm just curious what it is. :)

Mine is "(Simply Having A) Wonderful Christmas Time" by Wings/Paul McCartney.

NOTE: the following answers don't count:
- all of them / I don't celebrate your godless and commercialistic holiday / I hate you
- whichever one the scenester kids with their $%^#! checkered Vans think is cool

Dear Lady and Guy....

I am so sorry I almost hit you. I really am. You looked really nice and you were just coming out of the theater. I want to blame someone else, but it was totally my fault. I've only had my license for 2 or 3 weeks now...I hope you'll forgive me someday.

if only there were unicorns on my car. then maybe i wouldn't have been so gloomy and distracted.

p.s. ha. i'll blame the rain for making it wet so i can't paint my car and THAT'S why it happened.

Meetup part deux!

Okay guys, so I hear last week's meetup was a bit of a dud-- sorry I wasn't there, I was in California.

BUT! We still have a meetup TOMORROW. Yes, TOMORROW. I mentioned it last week, but here's your reminder. It's TOMORROW TOMORROW TOMORROW. I will post another reminder tomorrow evening, because I know how flaky we DPers can be ;)

The info: 8pm, McMenamins Tavern & Pool, 1716 N.W. 23rd, minors welcome until 10pm, meetup FAQ, etc. Newbies encouraged, oldbies encouraged to not haze the newbies (at least not too violently)!

We shall have no dress-up theme this month, but if you ask nicely I'll buy a few packages of various cookie doughs and make cookies. ^_^

So be there! not there! Which means we might prank call you!

Golden Chopsticks

Has anyone ever eaten at the Golden Chopsticks restaurant on N Albina just up the street from PCC Cascade (N Killingsworth). The cafeteria's choices are limited but I'm paranoid about bad Chinese food.

Citysearch has a good user review but I don't trust those.

Almost at parent in PDX... advice?

I'm due the end of december to have a baby girl (our first child) I got a good deal of what I need for the baby over the holiday at a baby shower, but I still need a good stroller and car-seat for the little one, plus, since she's going to be born in the coldest part of winter here, a lot of warm clothing to wrap her up in, when we do decide to take her outside.

Are target and babies R us the only places to go for these things?

Other than shopping, is there any other advice other parents have for us as we jump into parenthood for the first time?

Bands outside the 1-5 Corridor don't count

The criteria:
1) Band must be from the PNW
2) Song must refer to the PNW in some form or be a classic for the area (but not outside--we can be elitist schmucks like hipsters)
3) If you can't find any song that fits 2, but the band just has to be included, another song will do.

edit: the master list of what I have so far

Anyone have a song that fulfills #2 for Pearl Jam or Nirvana? Tegan and Sara? Any other bands?

I have a feral cat that lives in my backyard and I was wondering if someone might have a small animal shelter of some sort they could donate to keep him warm and dry.

(I'd also be willing to pay a small amount to have one built although my current Christmas budget requires that it be fairly cheap.)

Thanks to anyone who might be able to help.

Does anyone know anything about the "suspicious package" that was found early this morning in Pioneer Square? I was on the MAX and the operator announced something to that effect around Beaverton Central, also saying that they weren't allowing any trains downtown and that we were probably going to get held up at PGE Park. Later he said that everything was clear and we'd be allowed downtown. I got off at Library, so I didn't see anything actually happening at the square, and I'm not able to find anything on This was around 7-7:30 this morning.

Oh la la, ze hair will be pretty... pretty damned expensive!

So my lovely fellow Portlanders... has anyone had hair extensions put in over at Leepin' Lizards? How was the service? How much did it cost?

And I'm talking real hair extensions, not synthetic or dreads. Do they charge according to color as well as length? How much would just under the shoulder blades or waist length cost me?

I'd go in and ask them myself, but it's freaking cold, my car isn't working, and I'm not risking the bus. Plus I can't get time off of work to go in any day this week to see them anyway.

Help? Please?

Does anyone know where I can find Cadbury Giant Button candies/chocolates in the Portland area? And not at the import candy store at Saturday Market or at Cost Plus. I know somewhere has to have them. Thanks in advance.
