Rainy Day

Thank you all...

For the good dialogue that resulted from the post I made yesterday. There were tons of good thoughts/suggestions and with the exception of two posts - everyone kept the discussion productive! It is nice that we can disagree with each other and add new insights and viewpoints without lowering ourselves to bashing each other for lack of any useful arguments!!

Kudos to you DamnPortlanders!

Use the Force..

OK, damnportlanders, I am in need of your infinite wisdom.

We're having this contest at work based on Star Wars trivia, and there is one last question that is completely stumping us. I know a lot of you are die hard fans, so here's the question to put all your useless trivia to the test:

Which two actors turned down the role of Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy?

I need some Jedi mindpower here :)

Best Oregon Wines?

EDIT: Good to know for my own tastes, but apparently Ohio doesn't allow out-of-state wine shipment. Bummer!

I'd like to send my Mom a wine gift basket for her upcoming birthday. So DPers...what Oregon wineries would you suggest?

Singles Night Out Part 2

referenced to here http://www.livejournal.com/community/damnportlanders/5098780.html?nc=25

OK so... I'd like to do this Saturday night and meet in a local area and keep it near the max line (since I too am MAXing and drinking)

Does anyone have any ideas?
Prefer it to be places we can talk and interact and not yell over too loud music.

I was thinking the rose festival thing but that might be hard if there are more than 5 or 6 of us. and it's kind of sleazy so...

I'm thinking 7 or 8 on Saturday Downtown but I'm not sure where to meet up first...

EDIT: We are going to meet at Berbati's Pan at 8pm.

we can decide to go somewhere else after if that fills up to much or there are to many of us.

camera grr

i need my digital camera repaired. it's a mechanical problem so it's nothing major. been calling circuit city and canon and they just keep referring me to the main repair center in B.F.E. somewhere in Illinois saying that it will take a few weeks..
anywho -- anyone know of any decent digital camera repair shops in Portland that won't charge me an arm and a leg to fix the little button that switches the camera from preview mode to shooting mode...

Quick, I need a cheap place to buy wine glasses, a corkscrew and a hand-crank egg-beater downtown. Sur La Table?

EDIT: It needs to be open till 6pm at least.

EDIT: Thanks everyone. Cost Plus World Market it is.

anyone need a box spring and bedframe?

hey, my girlfriend and i just moved to portland, and discovered that our queen size box spring wouldn't fit up the stairwell. so, if anyone wants a FREE queensize box spring and bedframe, i have one for you. ideally, you will pick it up in the next couple days... i have no where to store it. both are in pretty good shape... the boxspring is about 10 years old, the frame is older but still fully functioning.

Shirtless in Portland

So, who here walks around shirtless during the summer? I can't because my skin is way too pale. Actually, my face is darker than my pasty white belly. I'm somewhat jealous of people who can get away with traipsing around shirtless. I've heard shorts aren't cool. Is that so?

I guess this question is mostly for the guys since most girls don’t walk around shirtless unless they’re skinny dipping or at The Country Fair?

What would happen if we all staged a big shirtless march? They couldn’t stop us.

Okay, I've googled and googled and I can't seem to find the answer to my question.

I'm running Windows XP PRO and when I log off to switch users, nothing loads. No power to my keyboard or mouse. Just a black screen. I have to shut my computer off by holding down the button and it's getting REALLY annoying. Anybody have any idea how to fix this?

Job searching?

Hey all,
So, like many of you, I am looking for work. Currently, I am using the following:
Oregon live
Want ads from various locations...

Yeah, I think that's all (there might be some I am forgetting). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else knew of other places that I am totally over looking.
europa and the bull

diagnose my car please!

my car is acting a bit funny lately. the 'service engine soon' light will blink on, and then go off again. three times in the past week the car has stalled on me as i was breaking to stop, park, etc. is it possible that i just got a bad tank of gas? would that make the 'service engine' light come on? i should i fill my car at a different station and see if the stalling proglem goes away? because in all other respects, the car seems to be operating perfectly normally.
circle of life

Are you looking for a job?

There seems to be an awful lot of people looking for work lately, and I figured I'd help out.

There is one employer that's hurting for employees right now. Numbers are down and they need more warm bodies. The work is interesting, varied, and the chance to travel is definitely there. There's a couple of months worth of training, and then you're basically good to go. Several of my friends have joined over the past couple of years and they love it!

Don't want to sling burgers or answer phones? Want to travel AND feel like you're making a difference? Want to get to play with cool toys?

Psyko Disko - Synthpop on Video!

(Don't worry, I'm not going to spam this list every week. Just a lot of new things starting up I think some people might want to know about - Love, your friendly local event coordinator.)

Starting June 21st, Psyko Disko goes video!

Mohawk Adam, former resident at Nation and Alchemy in DC, and I will be mixing videos and visuals to bring your favorite synthpop bands to life. You'll be able to dance along with videos from such bands as De/Vision, Apoptygma Berserk, Covenant, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Soft Cell, Human League, Wolfsheim, Ladytron, VNV Nation, Fischerspooner, Portishead, New Order, and sooooo much more!

Psyko Disko happens every Tuesday at the Red Cap Garage and features the best in vocal electronic dance... meaning 80s and modern synthpop, EBM, electroclash, trip hop, and beyond. If it's electronic, has a good dance beat, and has vocals, it's Psyko Disko.

Your whole family is made out of meat -

Odd question.

Has anyone reading this ever had a chemical peel or microderm abrasion? I'd like to get one of these procedures done for some acne scarring but I'm not sure which to choose. I'd like to hear some first hand experiences with either procedure if anyone has one!

kittykatcher and I are looking for a new place to live as the house we rent is up for sale. Old story, I know ;)

Our question is...are there particular rental agencies/prop mgmt agencies we should stay away from?

We have NOT been happy with Realty Management Advisors, Inc. They suck donkey balls!! The owner of the house is selling because of them.

Thanx folks
