Mildly funny that they'd protest the removal of fareless square when the free rail zone is still there... this would've been a bit more appropriate on a bus, which is what went non-fareless.
Back in 2006 they were announcing a proposed removal of all fareless square - with that said, all credit for adding 'meaning' in the political sense - my meaning is more in the gathering and shared activity of people.
Do your prefunking off the train - the drivers tend to let it go if there aren't any open containers (and we stay off the seats). Sort of same with food - last one was full-train packed, so chips might go everywhere.
In 2006, having it be on parade night really helped to distract police from caring about us - they pulled someone off the other car and waved us on our way. In oct 2008, halloween was pretty good too
First, let me say that we will have a lot (a LOT) more people, and the potential authority isn't federal but in fact Trimet. Second, we have fall-back plans within fallback plans - to have a streetparty (except upon Pioneer Square grounds) is itself permitted, so in a 'worse case' scenario we've taken over particular squares (such as when our soundsystem comes out for Santacon). Third, the entire approach of that Dance FlashMob to intercession by the authorities was incorrect - they act as if they have a right not to be intervened, and by not complying with requests (even if unreasonable), they invite an amplified response.
When the police tell us they'd rather have us here or there, or even to disperse, we immediately do so, give them our name and phone number as organizers in case they need to reach us about anything, and meet up in a different spot - to push back is to increase intervention, rather the strategy to be compliant in every way, and it's served us very well.

Re: Actually...
What kind of party is it without terrible canned bean dip on Lay's, and lots and lots of booze to make the awkward conversations more so?THAT AIN'T NO PARTY.
